Scott Lowrey, M.Ed., LPC Intern, Assistant Director

In 1999, Scott was in the midst of life, enjoying a thriving career in sales, married to his best friend, raising their two young boys and involved in many areas of his church community. Yet Scott could not evade the persistent urging of God’s call on his life to participate in ministry more fully. It was at this time that Scott and his family surrendered to follow the Lord into full time ministry in the area of counseling.

After seeking godly counsel from his pastor, Scott at age 35 went back to school and obtained a Masters of Education in Marriage and Family Therapy degree from Carson-Newman College. He felt that he should pursue a professional counseling degree that would enable him to move toward state licensure. In 2001 he completed his degree thinking he had received a Christian counseling education, but the reality was that his degree was based on and flowed from secular thinking and psychology.

Facing his first client, Scott realized his secular training was not sufficient to change lives. God drew him into counseling to affect the lives of others through the power of God’s Word. As a result of this realization Scott searched for a more Biblical approach to counseling and became aware of Christian Counseling Associates in Plano, Texas. CCA’s founder and president had just made the change from being a counselor who integrated secular psychology into his practice to a Biblical counselor relying on Scripture alone. The Lowrey family stepped out on faith and entered the next phase of their lives by moving to Dallas, Texas where Scott began with Christian Counseling Associates as an LPC-Intern.

From private practice at CCA, Scott joined the staff of Irving Bible Church as their associate pastor of community care for the next 2 years. Prior to moving to Dallas, he also served for 2 years as the pastor of family ministries/singles/community care at First Baptist Church of Cleveland, Tennessee.

Scott began working with the Association of Biblical Counselors in 2006 when it was a dream in the lives of 3 men with the same passion for expanding the field of Biblical Counseling. Since that time ABC has grown in membership and resources. Scott’s involvement is in the area of member care. He fills that roll passionately and describes Biblical Counseling as “discipleship on steroids”. He add, “I know that when I have given Biblical counsel patiently, lovingly, truthfully, and practically applied that I have left the counselee with true direction. I can rest confidently in the power of God’s Word to change lives.”

While serving as a pastoral counselor for the last 5 years, Scott has had the opportunity to work with many hurting individuals facing a variety of issues such as marriage and family, addiction, depression, anxiety, fear, anger, parenting and pre-marital counseling. Although Scott has much experience already, he has recently affiliated with Metroplex Counseling to reengage his pursuit to become a licensed professional counselor. He is currently an intern operating under the supervision of the president of Metroplex Counseling, Jeremy Lelek. The Lord continues to do amazing things in the lives of the counselees he is privileged to work with, as well as his own life and family. In addition to his responsibilities at Metroplex, he continues to passionately work for the Association of Biblical Counselors as their vice-president.

Scott and his wife Allison have been happily married for 18 years. They both grew up in Cleveland, Tennessee and met in their church’s singles group. Scott enjoys fishing, traveling, playing guitar hero with his sons, and rooting for the TN Vols. They currently reside in McKinney, TX and are blessed with two incredible sons – Taylor (14) and Matt (12).
